Embarrassed, to be embarrassed? Know that you’re not alone…
Have you ever had bad service, and wanted to complain? “Don’t complain, just leave it, we won’t come here again” comes the voice of company from across the table, as you furiously contemplate what to do next.
“Don’t complain, just leave it, we won’t come here again”
Surely we’ve all heard it, at some point in our lives. Those few, powerful, pleading words.
So, OK, we agree to keep quiet- silently vowing never to return.
Most of you might recognise this scenario, from restaurants to hotels, shops to cafes.
But did you know that 80% of women experience embarrassment during their cervical screening test. So what? Well, for 1 in 3 of us within the UK, the embarrassment is so severe, or uncomfortable, that we don’t attend our cervical screening appointments. In some areas there are as many are 3 in 4 people not attending. Far from a small problem, that’s more than 1.6million patients.
Did you know that 5,000 lives are saved every year through vital cervical screening health checks like these?
It’s about time we accept that cervical screenings are embarrassing. Socially uncomfortable. Let’s complain – together. When we deny our embarrassment, it doesn’t just go away. We internalise it- and for too many of us, that means vowing never to return.
